My son and I always enjoyed watching the US C-5 Galaxy fly over our home each month. It was always one of those "drop everything" moments when we would run to our back yard and listen to the huge engines whine and see it descending to its destination. We did not know which base it came from or which one it was heading to. The overflights were discontinued a few years ago. 😥

I was in USAF for 8 years and was stationed at Travis AFB for the last 4 of them; in the subsequent 35.5 years I lived in Fairfield, CA. Over those nearly 40 years, I grew quite used to--but never tired of--these behemoths flying overhead. I've moved since to the Pacific Northwest, so I only occasionally see its smaller cousin, the C-17, these days. My son wanted to be a loadmaster on a C-5, but he would've had to wait quite a while for a position to open. Instead, he is now an avionics technician for F-15Es in North Carolina.

I was stationed at Travis AFB in 1980. Loaded a many C-5’s, C-141’s, C-130’s, 747’S, DC8’S, etc. The C-5 has the smoothest ride when going tdy. Retired years back. Still love that C-5 engine sound.
  • I live near to the fantasticC130s. Proud to have them in our Air Force fleet and the crew who are special part to keep them in top shape.

The best thing about Fat Albert is it sounds like 4 Warthogs taking off at the same time.,. 😂

I was a flight line mechanic in the U.S. AIR FORCE. My memory of a C-5, I changed many to tires and refueled it.

These are still a slick looking plane considering it the design is nearly 60 years old.

USA., ¡¡¡ Bravo !!! La experiencia y el amor a la patria y la familia ,es lo que hace tan atractivo este país de gringos ,que hasta los más ideologizados comunistas sueñan con comprar una residencia, con plata de la mafia. ¡¡¡ Viva USA !!!

The C-5A's "noisy"? That's the best sounding big jet EVER!
  • I live about 5 miles from Travis AFB, I sure do miss the sound of those TF-39's.
