The Owner Who KILLED His Team On Purpose

Published 2023-09-07
This football documentary tells the true story of how Barry Town football club went from Wales' most successful football club to dead in under a decade thanks to the incompetence of owner Stuart Lovering. This video features many bizarre moments such as Lovering pledging to build Barry Town FC a 40,000 seater stadium even though they averaged less than 500 fans at games.

This video chronicles the entire 10 year period of destruction that cements Stuart Lovering as one of footballs worst ever owners and the subsequent fightback led by Barry Towns supporters committee and fans to rebuild their football club after it died. I have included footage and relevant articles to help tell the story where I could find them to give a full and accurate account of the entire era.

The clubs glory era, subsequent takeover, decline under Lovering, relegations, the end of the club and revival are all covered.

Do you think Stuart Lovering is the worst football owner in the history of the sport or do you have a different suggestion?

  • I used to watch Welsh football back in the mid to late ninety's. The opposition used to do a lap of honour if they scored against Barry.

A real shame that this channel no longer uploads. The Barry Town story is a real tragic one.

Excellent video!! Full credit to the QUALITY Barry Town United fans!!

How could the governing bodies let this happen? They had a decade to pull him out and they let him ruin the entire club
  • This is good for a first video, there are a few bits I would've edited out like slight mixups in the narration but nothing big tbh. Very solid effort overall and a comprehensive view of an obscure story

Has Gavin Chesterfield ever been seen in the same room as Wayne Rooney?

I remember in the 90s, we had the team invite one of the class of the school I went to, to train with them, I wasn’t into football back than, and though I cant remember the players names, I will never forget the kindness they showed. I will always be thankful. It’s sad to see what they became in the years that followed. I was so glad when they came back, even though they had to rebrand.

Thought it was going to be about Third Lanark in Scotland. They suffered the same fate as Barry
  • I remember seeing the name Barry Town in the newspaper when checking the early round European draws every year to see who the Irish clubs would be playing back in the 90s.
