Making your tone dynamic is a game changer. I hated the way I sound, but once I realized this, at least it gave me hope, and I sound much better. Thank you for teaching such things!

this is so helpful for understanding consciously what i'm doing with my voice when i sing. i can do much of this 'instinctively' but can't really explain what i'm doing when it's pointed out, or always do it consciously if a song calls for it. thank you so much for giving me a vocabulary here and for helping me better observe my own tone! (also, for your fucking awesome vocals on this cranberries cover! dolores o'riordan would have loved this :D)

This is great Chris! Your advice about recording yourself EVERY TIME you sing is spot. I began doing this recently and it makes a world of difference. I was in the same category of not liking how my voice sounds on a recording! It was not always the case, when I sing original stuff I can usually get it to where I want it to be but when singing covers (which I do for warm up and practice) those sound just disgusting. So I began recording my practices and I am begining to hear some elements in my voice that I like, so I begin to lean into those and this is helping me to develop a more unique tone and style. Overall you recent videos on things like sounding boring, being off pitch etc are very helpful! Thank you as always!

Singing into a room disperses the sound waves’ vibrations, but compressed into a mic 🎙 every scattering note coming off the vocal cords is picked up and sometimes recorded to a close but not intended note. And some mics will flatten the waves. You know. But I have to say, your demo at the start was impressive. It’s time for me to challenge myself vocally more, and so like the saying goes, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”
  • 20 years ago I had no idea what I really sounded like until I recorded in a studio. Now with the home gear you can get, I can work on my vocals. Wish I had this 20 years ago.

LOVE THIS CHRIS. Love your lower range. These are some of the sounds and crafting skills I've been wanting to develop. What brilliant ways to use breath. Bouncing, tone shaping - awesome. At 13.19 WOW. So much to study and learn here. The visuals are really helpful. You're so generous in sharing such quality material Chris. You are impressive. Thankyou.

I’m new, and absolutely love these videos. Cant get enough! I’ve been singing for years and after a couple videos, had my mind blown that I could actually sing about 3-4 whole steps higher than I realized, and with a more powerful tone. I need to dial in much more control with this newfound range, but WOW! Thanks Chris.
