  • Brendel is a great Alchemist of Schubert‘s music The comfort of his piano is unfathomable, and off the charts

I love that Brendel plays these jewels with the sensitivity and care they deserve.

That Allegretto in A-flat... gorgeous, contemplative. What a wonderful little masterpiece.

Human beings are awesome. To write this music and play it like this is incredible.

Brendel became my favorite pianist as I was first introduced to the "winterreise" some 42 years ago. He lives the atmosphere of the songs and renders it through his intelligence and accurate playing.

His performance of the Moment Musicaux no. 3 is fantastic, crisp and precise. I have real trouble getting my own playing to sound anywhere near his!

Nothing can put your mind back on an even keel like listening to plenty of Schubert.
  • I will never forget the first time I heard the exquisitely beautiful no. 4. My radio alarm woke me one morning with this piece, and it was like waking up in paradise! I went up to London the following weekend and bought the sheet music, but alas it is well beyond my playing ability. I found it is much more difficult than it sounds. Perhaps one day in Heaven! And isn't no.5 exhilarating! Thanks for posting!

Can only repeat that I'm delighted to view these younger Brendel performances of Schubert.  Thank you.
  • I love the ease with which he plays. Everything that is perfect seems so simple. It flows so naturally, it is an organic whole.
  • Whomever then Alfred Brendel to play Frank Schubert in such a manner that it is (and he is) unforgettable. The beauty of his playing is unsurpassed.
