Being "nice" means stuffing things down to make others comfortable

Being "nice" means not ruffling feathers, making everyone comfortable even if you have to bend over backwards, smoothing things over, stuffing things down, and plastering on a smile. Being kind is honoring your boundaries, it teaches people the natural consequence to their actions. We want to avoid "saving" our kids from the fact that their behavior has an effect on people and their environment, even when it's sad. Letting them learn about natural consequences is the most loving thing you can do, even if you have a desire to protect them.

If you want to learn more about creating resilient children, modeling for kids so they learn to honor their boundaries, and to speak up for themselves check out my free Facebook group: www.facebook.com/groups/thepresentparents/
