The scoring system is revolutionary material. It didnt catch on, or even get iterated on further after this game, but those who looked close at it all know that its an incredible depth machine, transforming all of the mid levels into extremely replayable puzzles (well aside from the longest shortcut...). This combo/scoring system demands iteration, its SO good once you learn r3 scoring.

The enemy and piggybank criticism is just bizarre :v such a random thing to complain about, considering it feels amazing to me and I thought to everyone else too but guess not

Rayman 2 seems to have nothing in it while Rayman 3 is jam packed with so many different things thrown at you and the feel of the game makes it so charming compared to two

Something you didn't bring up was the camera. Now, I don't know if this is a me problem but when I recently replayed Rayman 3 I was shocked to find out how horrid the camera controls were. I was constantly fighting with them to center the camera and God help you if you were jumping down and there is a wall near the position of the camera - it goes all over the place, jitters and finally locks onto Rayman from above. The story was also a very weak point. I'm a sucker for game stories and the fact the game's story is 2/3 looking for doctors for Murry, only to get "Your princess is in another castle" 'd made me often not really interested in going forward. So I just played the whole game over a few days which was enough for me to ignore the shortcomings and enjoy it for what it was. Most PS2 games do fovus on gameplay, so the story is often overlooked, so I'm giving it a pass. The in-between surfing levels were just pqinfully obvious filler with good music. Not to say filler levels are bad, Ratchet and Clank 3's Galactic Ranger missions are super entertaining, not mechanically, but with the Rangers bickering over the radio while you do the mission it gives these bonus levels character, while the ones in Rayman 3 are just paddimg for runtime. There were some sections of the game where it was plain-out cheating by putting you in a stunlock while you take damage, like if you fall off the net of the Arena battle into the lava - from there just reload your save, because you're not recovering. I fon't agree with you about the mini games - there is ABSOLUTELY no reason to collect the lumms for score as the mini-games it unlocks are terrible and are not worth in the slightest to sink more that 20 seconds on each. Crash Bash this is not. All in all I do agree with your thoughts on the game, it really is, as you said, a mid game - not horrible but not the best either. I'm a bit surprised you didn't talk about the Hoodlum's HQ sexy voice speaker lady.
