Incredible lightning activity! This storm had so much lightning, it appeared constantly lit. For licensing contact [email protected]

At first this storm seemed like the typical storm complex that develops in Nebraska in June. Shooting time-lapse photography on the north side of the storm gave me clear view of the multi celled updrafts. With each passing minute, more and more lightning activity became visible. It soon become evident Mother Nature was cooking up something unusual.

Throughout the video you'll notice little green lights glowing. These are fireflies and they were also unusually abundant this year.

I live in the Texas Panhandle and every so often we get these storms that do nothing but lightning over and over with no breaks in between. Truly a sight to behold.

The imagery recalls that of neurons firing. A great cloud brain.

Saw a storm like this earlier this year. It was directly over my town and the sky was almost permanently ablaze for about ten minutes. The strangest thing though was the complete lack of rain, wind or thunder. It was absolutely silent as the sky seemed to flicker between day and night. Incredible spectacle.

When you were like “this is not a time lapse” I was like 😱

I love storms like this - we had one just a couple of weeks ago. Many years ago I was teaching a class of 11 year olds, and a storm blew up. It was early afternoon but became so dark street lights came on. Then the lightning began. I switched off the class room lights and for the rest of the lesson we stood and watched the most magnificent storm I've ever seen. Years later, the pupils still talked to me about the storm. Apparently, the other teachers had closed curtains and blinds, and mine were the only ones to see the storm in all its glory.
  • There’s nothing in the world I love more than a thunderstorm.... This was spectacular!!

Plot twist: This is just Thor and Electro fighting.

These electric storms are unreal. I’ve witnessed it once and it’s awe inspiring. The magnitude and sheer ferocity of it really makes you feel insignificant in the face of Mother Nature. Very cool stuff

Getting to see a lightning storm like that in person would be an indescribable privilege for me! Lighting is my favorite weather phenomenon on the planet! It's true magic!
  • I drove trough a storm like that in ‘95. Sideways blowing rain and hail with continuous lightning. What a ride! I then drove along an road behind it for over an hour. What a show. Incredible!

I've experienced that phenomena while I lived in north Texas. Grab a portable am radio and tune it to an open frequency and you can hear the violent static noises from thunderstorms scores of miles away or more.

It almost looks like nature is creating something. Such a concentration of lightning strikes me as a process of some kind.

Unreal. So beautiful and really humbles you to how insignificant we really are in the grand scheme of it all. Id love to see something of this magnitude at least once before I go
  • We had one just like this in Louisiana last night. We call these severe lightning storms, and come through a lot during the summer. The last night was the most powerful one I've ever seen in my life. There was almost no break in between the flashing. Truly incredible, and I was left in complete disbelief watching it. The accompanying high winds and hail wrecked half the town and most of us are without power now. Luckily ours, stayed on.

I guess youtube recommendations have brought us all back together again

Thanks to Avatar: The Last Airbender, I have a major obsession with lightning. To me, it’s the ultimate sign of power and it makes me very sad that I am not a fire bender with the ability to harness lightning
