I think they might've improved the graphics a bit too
  • Yaridovich is now Speardovich (no, I'm not calling him Speardovich.) There's a note sheet next to the Monstro Town star, so even musically-challenged people like myself can do Toadofsky's third challenge. Post-game rematches. In the Beetle Mania game, I'm pretty sure shells didn't auto-explode if they lasted for too long in the original, but they do now. Also in the Beetle Mania game, the remake stops dropping heart pickups after you reach 90 million points, making capping out the score much harder to maybe actually impossible? Frogfucious is now Frog Sage, another renaming letdown. Speaking of Frogfucious, the note by him now has a minor puzzle for the first part of Toadofsky's challenge, as opposed to giving a straight answer. Exor's mouth is now called Mouth, instead of Neosquid. The mushroom that the goomba triplets sell you no longer has a misspelling in the description. It now correctly says "recovers" instead of "recoers". On the world map, Booster's Tower has been changed slightly to show the balcony area on the top of the tower, which isn't present on the SNES version's world map. 100 Super Jumps is technically slightly easier to achieve, as Mario now has a shadow that shows how high he is above the enemy. Personally, this was what helped push me to get my 100 Super Jumps. I believe the actual timing is unchanged. Culex is now more in line with the Japanese version of the original game, talking about Mario's three dimensions versus his two. Valentina's hurt animation is changed. The bird headdress that she wears no longer reacts and... well, her boobs don't jiggle as much anymore. I feel like a perv knowing this. There's a new item that boosts the meter gain from successful action commands. Speaking of action commands, they're now called action commands instead of timed hits. Toad no longer forces you to waste a mushroom to recover 1 HP in the tutorial. I don't think the Mack/Claymorton skip is possible anymore (though I never actually did it in the original.) Hinopio is now named Cinder Toad. His original name is a combination of the Japanese word "hi", which means fire, and kinopio, the Japanese name for a toad. The goomba clerk in Monstro Town is now named Goomhilde, which is more in line with the Japanese dialogue suggesting that she is female (this was lost in translation, with no dialogue showing that she is either male or female in the English version of the original game.) The actual dialogue for the triathlon puzzle is changed slightly. It's still possible for a fish to place 3rd out of 4 places in a swimming contest somehow. Croco, when approached in Nimbus Land, no longer drops the signal ring, but instead a superior version that gives you a hot/cold style hint system to guide you to hidden treasures. Speaking of hidden treasures, a generic toad has been added to Mushroom Kingdom castle so the first, previously-permanently-missable hidden treasure is no longer permanently-missable. Bowser no longer refers to the Koopa Troop, instead preferring to use the term "Bowser's minions." Luigi's wish is changed from "I wanna be a great plumber like my brother Mario" to "I want to help my brother Mario." He's still not in this game outside of the credits sequence. Not technically a change, but the new bestiary you mentioned now has the correct pronunciation for Belome. It's pronounced "Bel-õm", where the õ sound is a nasally sound that is meant to be produced by speaking through your nose somehow. Don't ask, I don't know how to do that either. Box Boy, Pandorite, Hidon and Chester, the four mimic enemies, have been renamed to Pleaseno, Huhwhat, Whuhoh and Comeon, respectively. These names are more in line with their original Japanese names. Every win animation except Geno's have been changed. Any references to the peace sign have been completely removed. Rumor has it that Miyamoto grew to dislike the peace sign pose due to it being too childish. Even Bowser's win animation has been changed despite him never doing the peace sign. Croco now calls Mario a persistent pest instead of a persistent bugger, due to bugger being an offensive term in the UK. Virtually all Thought Peek text has been rewritten. The arena where you fight the second phase of Smithy has been changed where you are no longer fighting on top of red, discarded Smithy heads. Those heads still do make an appearance in the final battle, just not as the platform on which you fight him. The text that displays when you open the empty hidden treasure now says "Bad luck!" instead of "You missed!" One of the hidden treasures in Forest Maze has been moved slightly. Most Yoshis now make noises like their modernized vocalizations. However, Boshi and the fat Yoshi still make noises based on their original appearance. Mario no longer makes different poses depending on how often you refuse to override a save before actually saving. There's now a secret code that you can activate by pressing Down, Up, Right, Left, L, R, L, R, B. It doesn't really do anything. This was in the original Japanese game, but was cut from the English versions. Mario now climbs up Vista Hill when escaping from the collapsing bridge. Some descriptions for items have been changed to better reflect what they actually do, although a lot of them are still missing key information. Those that do give specific information no longer give false information, such as the Fright Bomb which in the original game, claimed to affect all enemies when it only targets one. To add on what you said about the ! icon for action commands, those icons return if you start missing action commands to get you back into the groove of the correct timing again. The games in Grate Guy's Casino are all now free to play. Additionally, Blackjack has been replaced with a memory game where you have to remember the positions of Mario, Mallow, Geno, Bowser and Peach in a selection of 10 cards, 5 of which are generic toads. Speaking of Peach, she is now referred to as Peach and not Toadstool. As a result of the above, Peach clones are now called Peach Clone and not Toadstool2 due to character limits. Johnny Jones' model has been cleared up so it's now obvious he is wearing a shark costume, not that he is a shark. His bestiary entry shows that he killed a dangerous shark, likely the basis for his costume. I'm guessing he made a costume out of the remains of the shark he killed, but this is not outright stated. Toad now wears a different color vest as opposed to the generic members of his species, also called toad. B'tub Ring is now called the Nurture Ring. Wizakoopa is now smaller in battle, more accurate to his actual size in relation to Mario and his team. Due to the way the game's physics are calculated, sometimes it's possible to slide off if you land on the very, very edge of a platform. This has been most noticeable, frustratingly, during the Land's End cliff climb segment. A bug has been fixed in the Nimbus Land area where one of the treasure chests forgot to take away Mario's movement, allowing him to slide around while posing. Granted, this was fixed because most treasure chests no longer stop you. Drain is now Hot Shot, which more accurately reflects what the attack actually is. Special attacks now tell you to press A repeatedly instead of Y. However, Y also works. You can actually press both to fill the meter for these special attacks faster. Speaking of which, the meter for pressing A/Y repeatedly during special attacks is new. Geno has a few moves which require you to hold A/Y until you see five stars, then release. In the original game, it used to display as three stars instead. Group Hug no longer clears the effect of red essence on party members. The end game credits sequence is longer, showing an interaction between the five party members that was missing in the original game. You're correct about the coin cap being increased from 999. It is now 9,999. I haven't tested this one personally, but I think that using Sheep Attack on infinitely respawning enemies no longer causes a "Go, World!" debug message to appear. Someone please test this one and get back to me, if you made it this far through a YouTube comment. There's now an A and B button indicator during Yo'ster Isle races, showing the timing of when you're supposed to press these buttons. Mukumukus are now named Throphers and their respective cookies are also named Thropher Cookies. Bruce Lee is no longer referenced when Mario attempts to kill Bowyer with his bare hands and is stopped by Mallow. The Link and Samus cameos are now permanent, as opposed to only occurring during specific parts of the game. Thought Peek info for Terrapins, Bowser, Chaindeliers and Hammer Bros are now obtainable, whereas in the original game, they had this info but it was inaccessible through normal gameplay. Speaking of which, Kinklinks are now called Chaindeliers. The sunken ship is now more visible in the Sea area. There's also a revolutionary new game feature in this area called frame rate drops! Not technically a change, but this game was released on the 20th anniversary of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga's release. Pretty cool coincidence. Areas not in dungeons or buildings that are inaccessible by the player now show as scenery instead of an infinite void. When Exor is defeated, its mouth has been changed graphically to show that it is a portal and not just a mouth. The final area has been renamed to the Weapons World. Gobies are now named Cheep Cheeps, which are more in line with their standardized name in the regular Mario series. Booster seems to be even more simple-minded in the remake, not even remembering who Peach is after you go back to him when you beat Smithy. New wishes that are a pinkish color appear on Star Hill after you beat Smithy, hinting at which bosses can be fought in a rematch. These change as you beat the relevant boss. That's all I can think of right now. If you made it to the very end of this list, congratulations.
  • @Master0fHyrule
Surprised you didn't mntion the jiggle physics for Valentina. Also, using special attacks, everyone had lost the symbols.
  • @Polarthief
I hope you enjoy this crazy long wall of text. Yeah I'm a massive SMRPG nerd. Additional stuff not in the video: - The hidden Frog Coin in Peach's Castle is now not unobtainable if you missed the one opportunity to jump on Toad. They removed the invisible wall. - I'm sure you're aware of the dialogue changes, but they removed the Bruce Lee line. - Many items were made unsellable, including Flower Items (Tabs/Jars/Boxes, which IMO is an AWFUL change), the Bright Card, and any equipment you can only find once (the Hammer from Hammer Bros, the Froggiestick, etc). If you can buy the item later in the game though (such as the Seaside Town Weapon/Armor store), it is sellable. - The Play Report has medals tied to them, sorta like "Achievements" if you do well enough in the various Minigames and Casino games. Speaking of the Casino: - While it's still called Grate Guy's Casino, Blackjack was changed completely into a (really slow) Memory Matching game and gives items. It's also free to play. The "Slot Machine" name was changed (I forgot to what) and also gives items instead of frog coins. Also free to play. Essentially, there's no more gambling in the casino due to modern times of not wanting to get kids hooked on gambling. - It's much easier to get into the Casino. In the remake, jumping where the hidden platform is seems to just work, while in the original, it always felt random as hell. - The Yo'ster Isle Mushroom Derby race has always been kinda broken, but differently now. In the original, the tutorial was easy but the race was nigh impossible. I found hitting the A and B buttons on the OFF-beat was actually more optimal. In the remake, the tutorial is nigh impossible, but the actual race seems mostly doable (I still think the timing's off though). - The "Valentina Theme" (Nimbus Castle before you beat her out of the castle), the weird bird-like noises in the song are revealed to actually be (her?) laughs. - There's three new weapons in the remake, including a new "more ultimate" weapon for Mallow, Geno, and Bowser after defeating three of the rematch bosses. - Peach seems to have better Attack by the end of the game. - The Lazy Shell was both nerfed and buffed in terms of stats. They nerfed its ridiculous defensive capabilities (it's still really good, but doesn't make you only take 1 damage from everything anymore), but they buffed the drop in Attack and Mg. Attack to compensate. Also as pointed out somewhere below, it no longer makes you immune to elemental attacks (due to most of them also now being blockable). #6: Coin cap is indeed 9999, I capped it out at "Wizakoopa's" room just leaving the game on with a Turbo controller, lol. #30: That's not new. Using Thunderbolt would have "Mack's Stunned!" appearing on screen in the original. Same with Croco being hit by Fireball/Fire Orb. There's just new animations to go along with it. #32: Not new. They were called Bodyguard in the original as well and they still retain their higher stats from the original. #38: Not new. He "pulled back" in the original too. #39 (this should be #40, you counted #39 twice): This is new, but I wanted to comment on it: In the original, it looked like you actually got shot, like with a bullet, which always confused me, making me think the doll itself was magical in some way if it can do things like that. Now it's very clear that it's just a doll. #40: MAN I wish this was in the original. I actually stopped playing for so long because the fourth area just didn't have Geno, but this was when I was like 5 or 6 years old. #44: Just wait in an area. Same with the original, he does a loop around the place, so if you wait in a doorway, he's guaranteed to run into you. #47: This is very "WELL AKSCHULLY", but you only get the splash damage if you do the action command *perfectly*, not "correctly". Correctly gives you more damage and the little jingle that you did it right. Perfectly gives you the red number of damage, plus the splash. Both still increase your chain by 1 (the same goes for defending, where you get the shield and 0 damage taken if you perfectly block). #48: Yep, and he's completely new! #49: Not just the bestiary, but there's also the checkmarks if you successfully did the action command for Thought Peek (not seeing the quote in battle or not buying it from the guy on #48 does NOT give a checkmark). #57: Is that still a thing in the remake? They nerfed multiple items (Lazy Shell and Safety Ring) regarding elemental resistances and immunities because you can now action command block them if they're single-target attacks. I honestly don't know as I didn't do extensive testing of that. (Update from #90: Aha, gotcha. I guess I just never noticed personally) #60: I didn't notice the red barrels pushing you further up, but they were definitely added since the phase where the snifsters are moving all around removed the barrels completely in the original but now the red barrels are kept. Good change overall (also the song that plays during it, "Slope", IMO got the biggest glow-up of ANY other song on the soundtrack. It's so good <3) #62: 1 Candle does NOT prevent a kiss from Peach. I had a candle lit (possibly two?) and I still got her kiss. The other half of this point is correct though, it's definitely easier to get the items though. Always felt RNG in the original. #63: Bundt also only gets 1 candle back per turn, as opposed to 1 per attack. #66: This was so weird to me, especially when the Bob-Omb Cannonball room in Bowser's Castle still requires you to move in reverse. #72: There are multiple other items like that too. Two in Mushroom Way (the spinning flower area) and a few elsewhere. There's also a few not-hidden-but-invisible frog coins and flowers that used to have no notification (such as the ones in Booster's Tower), but now give a notification that you found a frog coin or a flower tab instead. #74: I said it earlier, but a lot of single-target spells too, yep. #78: He was always gold-tinted in the original, likely intended to be golden, just, 16-bit sprites, yeah. #80: As an added bit: "Beezo" is from Super Mario Bros 2 (USA), which resemble flying Shy Guys. #83: You can also spin on the vines. You couldn't do that in the original. #85: Honestly a bad change. "A Plumber's Lament" was hilarious and I wish they kept that for the original. #87: I NOTICED THAT TOO! I was like "wait, why can't he see me???". ALSO, they actually make him CHONK. The fat jokes never landed right for me because he didn't look that big, but now he's a big ol borb and I love him all the better for it. I probably missed a few things, but that's the bulk of stuff I noticed.
  • Also the Signal Ring once found in Nimbus Land was changed to the Echo Signal ring which will vibrate the controller the closer you are to a hidden block
  • @PrinceMallow
Some other changes I've noticed: Frogfucius is now "Frog Sage" (I will not be calling him this), you can no longer sell Flower Tabs/Jars/etc, you can no longer sell certain weapons like the Froggie Stick or Chain Chomp, various script changes at specific parts (the Toad Girl in Mushroom Kingdom running around in a circle now says she wants to be Mario's sidekick whereas in the original she said she wanted to get hitched with Mario when she grows up, the woman in Marrymore no longer describes Booster as having the "face of a totem pole", fat jokes made at the expense of Dodo are gone, Culex's dialogue is now more accurate to the original Japanese version by having him comment on Mario's 3D style whereas he is 2D, etc), the infamous triathlon puzzle in Bowser's Keep is much easier to solve now because one of the monsters says "I came in third for swimming, and never did better in the events after that." whereas in the original they just said "I came in third for swimming." That added line makes it much easier to realize they placed last. But man, words can not express how much I've loved this remake.
  • @MasterKnightDH
Axem Yellow's Body Slam is actually a counterattack VS physical attacks. It always was. I believe it was easy enough to block in the original.
  • @Wispmage
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but they no longer associate a playing card suit with each character. They used to appear just before you used an ability.
  • @DwunD016
Don't think I saw it. But Drain Beam in the original is now Painspout in the remake.
  • @NeoArashi
#5 There are still 4 save files. The 3 manuals one, and the Auto-save one.
  • @phineasarcturis
Grate Guy's Casino isn't really a casino anymore; both minigames are now free to play, and blackjack has been replaced with a card-matching game similar to that in 'Super Mario Bros. 3'. This was very likely to remove themes of gambling for younger audiences.
  • @train4292
I think Smithy banging his head to change forms was always intended. When you showed both animations side by side, it looked like Smithy was banging his own head to me. Of course it’s much clearer in the remake though. Also are you sure the timing for collecting Peach’s items are worse? Because when I did it, only like a few candles were lit, and she kissed Mario without Bowser or Booster interfering
  • @jeffshafer5633
The color of the Seaside Town star was changed from dark blue to pink.
  • @EarthBound_Fan
I remember I'm a previous video. You went on a bit of a talk on how you thought Punchenello is not a member of smithy and that he doesn't have the smithy gang Boss music. So I found it REALLY interesting when the remake DID use the smithy music for Puncheneollo which could mean he is part of the smithy gang after all!
  • @khaj214
(0:37) The maximum coins cap in the remake is 9,999 coins. I got to max easily by just farming for like an hour or 2 at the Treasure Chest that Magikoopa/Wizakoopa makes for you that has infinite coins in it
  • @Tonberry2k
Some I noticed; Peach also no longer uses the peace sign. All references to Mario being a plumber and the Koopa Troop are gone. B’tub ring is now the Nurture Ring You skipped over Yaridovich’s name change. :p The merchant with the frying pan in Moleville now also has a second Feather accessory. There’s a second variation of the signal ring where the original used to be. There are way more but I’m lazy. Also the Belome guard was always gold. Great video!
  • @galaxycamerata
    - Lucky minigames and Knife Guy's juggling are no longer random; You can now track them by sight, which makes grinding and getting the Bright Card a lot simpler. - All enemies with overworld sprites now have a typical standing pose in a fight instead of just marching in place. - Some animations are coded to not stop the action while they play out, like status effect applications or certain attack resolutions. - The item order of the Treasure Guy in Moleville has changed to add a fourth item between the Mystery Egg and Frying Pain; A copy of the Feather you get from Dodo after successfully dodging his little musical number tantrum. This ensures you still have access to it if you fail, and rewards you with two if you succeed. - All mainstay Mario enemies are updated to use their current character models, but all enemies original to the RPG's first release use a mix of their character art and their in-game sprites for reference. - Croco's chase in Mole Mines is slightly overhauled. Now, the easiest thing to do is just wait for him to loop around. He'll try to juke you out, but initiating the fight is still as easy as tapping him.
  • 4: Autosave. This feature sadly cannot be turned off at all and also makes it impossible to perform the endless 200-600 XP gain from winning against Culex (via the Lucky Jewel), getting defeated by something deliberately, and returning to Culex for a rinse / lather / repeat. 6: Coin caps are, indeed, 9999. Such can be seen in various 'money cheats' videos, but the most I've had at once was 1300. 26: Mallow doesn't 'Learn' "Thought Peek / Psychopath" as he starts the game with it already unlocked. HP Rain was the one already unlocked in the original. 36: The patterns of the coins are different, but the number of coin groups that you want to switch lanes in has not changed. Also, the fish are absolutely fiendish in making contact with you now, especially with those that come in groups of two, making you have to sacrifice a coin grab. The Waterfall part hasn't changed, though. 44: Due to the frame rate being greater on the Switch, it only seems like Croco is difficult to catch. However, the time to wait for him to pass by again is actually the same as the original. 60: The Snifits (Snifsters now) on Booster Hill begin weaving back and forth at a very specific point in the race, not after how many flowers you collect. It would happen at the time the barrels stopped appearing in the original game, but in the remake that is when the red barrels are finally added in. 62a: Peach's shoes actually have a much more visible appearance in the game. They fall off first when you break the door down with Bowser in the original, but due to how fast the camera pans you were unable to really see them. In the remake the camera actually pans down long enough for EACH of them to have a few seconds of screen time, whereas the shoes were picked up before the camera even started panning after the second item was picked up. 62b: The cutscene that follows the acquisition of the items AND talking to Booster changes depending on how many of the candles are lit. 0 - 1 will have Peach giving you the kiss. 2 lit will have Bowser kiss you. I didn't see the cutscene where either Booster or both of the males were kissing mario, but I DID notice they were lighting much faster after the first one lit up due to audio cues. 68: I've only reached 79 jumps so far... One day I will get the Super Suit. 74: Karnikiss has always been blockable, even in the original. The timing of the block had to be just as the Ant Samurai was just about to move away from the character. 85: Not only has the disguise's name been changed, but Garro's description of the 'statue' has also changed. 95: As someone states in another comment, Axem Yellow's Body Slam attack is merely a Physical Counter. It has always been able to be blocked much in the same timeframe as KarniKiss. Others: - If you miss the Frog Coin at the beginning in the Mushroom Kingdom's castle foyer, you are no longer locked out from getting it after toad passes through the door. Other toad guards roam the hall after Claymorton is defeated. - Dialogue in MANY areas has changed. - Rock Candy, along with the Flower items and a few others, can no longer be sold. This may prove a problem for players low on funds when swapping between Mushroom Boy and the Health Shop to buy more mushrooms for him in Seaside Town. - Scrooge Ring is now "Flower Ring" - When encountering Croco in Nimbus Land after defeating Valentina, he drops an upgraded Signal Ring, instead of the base Signal Ring mentioned early in the video, that acts as a sort of Radar Ping. I was hoping it would give the chests an outline when I got it, but no such luck. - The old guy that you give the Seed and Fertilizer to does not have his dialogue in one continuous series of lines when you give him each itm. The text still appears at the same rapid-fire rate as before, but it is limited to the standard text box limit of three lines. This means you have to read FAST and hopefully catch everything, as it auto-advances like before. - You mentioned only the Kero Kero Cold (Croaka Cola) being different when all of the drinks from the Juice Bar have different names. - I noticed the quiz questions have different questions in Bowser's Castle. I did not pay close enough attention to them as I skip both of Dr. Topper's quiz rooms entirely due to their end rooms not having a pre-credits ultimate weapon. - The end sequence with all the wishes and their results have changed a bit. Booster & Valentina, Johnny, Mallow, and Yoshi are still the same, but the others have changed. - The credits start out as their original 16-bit sprites. However, when night falls, just as Johnny enters the scene, it enters the much more modern graphical style. - The final firework to go off (Mushroom, Flower, or Star) no longer gets its own screen, but is visible amidst the other fireworks going off above the castle. - Yoshi's race is now much easier to win with the very helpful indicators on the lower right telling you which button gets hit when. - In the beginning, after Bowser has been defeated, you can no longer let it sit on Peach's final dialogue to let everyone bounce off the top of the screen. This does take 3 - 5 minutes to do. - Post-Credit content is available with multiple menu and features unlocked. Name Changes: Mack - Claymorton Yaridovich - Spearvich (Johnny calls him "Speary" in the note) Frogfucious - Frog Sage Cornholio - Crimson Toad(?), still the only very humanlike character in the game. Klinklink - Chandelier a few others I've forgotten...
  • @rabbidguarddog
Do a triple attack vid, and don't forget to talk about how cute mallows smile is when you have mallow and peach ❤
