Since no one has mentioned it, here’s the story. She wrote this Beauty inspired by an event in NYC. As she walked the streets on a rainy afternoon Aretha noticed 2 love birds partying ways. With the girl shouting to her love “ I love you, call me”. How beautiful is that. Thank you beautiful Aretha.
  • This song makes me cry thinking of my Only Love and Husband, Edward W. Purvis, Jr., (2/1/1051 - 2/4/2015). He dedicated to me, just before he went to Vietnam, Dec.1969. He did CALL ME as soon as he got there, and as soon as he got back home 1/2/yrs. later to Baltimore, Md. We were married shortly after...Loving you all my life and beyond...RIP Husband of My Heart, I will CALL YOU when I get there.

She wrote "Call Me" not long after divorcing her husband of eight years, Ted White. The inspiration for the song came when Aretha saw a young couple in New York City who were clearly in love. As they parted, each said to the other, "I love you." Followed by, "Call me, the moment you get there."

This is a real gem. She wrote it. Her singing is phenomenal, and her piano playing is impeccable. The feeling is real!

I sit here listening to this great song by Aretha. After hearing she is gravely ill. Tears have flowed. I think about my fondness memory of her in 2006 when I was leaving Riverside Church after attending the funeral of Luther Vandross. Upon walking out of the church. I looked to my right there was Aretha walking next to me. After greeting her I told her I loved her music. She smiled and her bodyguard said Awwww. An unforgettable memory. Lots of love to Aretha.
