  • "Because its Bioware" is an awful thing to say. After their recent games, you give too much credit to the name.

honestly the look of the game is one thing and i could definitely get over it but the fact that we're only getting 3 abilities when Inquisition gave us 8 along with 4 playable characters is such an insane ask. being able to play as your 4 party members was a huge part of the fun and allowed for alot of creativity and experimentation since you could try out classes that you would normally never pick and create interesting party combinations

Y'all keep saying Fortnite kids this and that. Fortnite kids aren't going to play this. They'll continue playing Fortnite.

So are we now pretending people didn't have gripes with 2 and Inquisition? The no.1 feedback of this series is how much fans want it to return to the Origins style
  • I think people are tired of big IPs chasing trends rather than take risks, and that first trailer looked like this would be the same. The gameplay trailer did look better, but I'll reserve my opinions for the reviews

Veilguard just gives off Gotham Knights, Kill the Justice League and Mass Effect Andromeda for me. I've yet to see anything to win my confidence

I'm a quite large DA fan, but I even found things I enjoyed about DA:I - I hate to say it but this feels like Dragon Age: Mass Effect... It's very 3rd person shooter-y for even an ARPG. Bioware needs to get out all the RPG stuff they talked about in interviews and display that to us all ASAP if they ever want any kind of engagement
  • The Devs at bioware seem to think gamers cant handle more than 3 ability slots per character. The combat already looks extremely repetitive.

I think it is ironic and disappointing that the series created to return to Bioware's roots in CRPGs like Baldur's Gate completely abandons that aspect to make it actioney and more like medieval Mass Effect. Especially in a year when BG returned and showed people still like DA:O gameplay

It's just BioWare in name. It has nothing in common with BioWare of old.
  • From an Art Style, character introduction pov there are similarities in what we have seen from previous games most notably Suicide Squad, Overwatch to name a couple. From an art direction side of things there is the overuse of oversaturated colours throughout the trailer and gameplay demo, especially too much reliance on emissive elements. Look at the creature design in the gameplay, they look like Xmas tree's come to life. Some UI elements are oversaturated and use emissive, combat effects and magic is oversaturated and emissive, and as mentioned so too are the creature enemy type shown in the demo. In the BG magic effects are glowing, even the signs above doors in the opening of the level are using colourful emissive textures. Its just too much on screen at once, its not controlled to carefully guide the player, or draw their attention, so much on screen is glowing so often. This is something I criticised Suicide Squad for, there was so much clutter over the screen with that game and everything was oversaturated it was horrible to look at. Right from the title reveal it didn't give a good impression either. The typography and colour choice of the logo also screams "mobile game" or "modern live service game" rather than gritty Fantasy RPG Adventure. This may sound petty but its the first thing the player and potential customer see's. Its a visual language that can tell you a lot about the game from very little. Great overall art direction in a game is cohesive from the initial advertising, to in game title screens, menu screens, UI elements, characters, props, environment, particle fx it all needs to be cohesive. If you don't know what I'm talking about go have a look at some great examples of games where there art direction is carefully balanced throughout from all of the elements I have mentioned above: Mirrors Edge, Deus Ex HR, Dishonoured, HL2, Bloodborne to name a few.

It is way more than the "vibrant colors". Its the floaty combat, the rounded look of the character models, the removal of the controll of your party and teplacement with Guardians of the Galaxy style controll, and then the color pallet.

My problem with it is that for now it looks super generic in every single way. Art design, writing, movement, combat. Imagine this NOT having the name "Dragon Age" in it or being by BioWare: No one would have really cared about the cinematic or the gameplay trailer.
  • @ichigokage
I’m fine with vibrancy in my game. But this is not Dragon Age period. This looks like a game with cyber magic. The demons may have changed over the games but these are completely different. Varric didn’t look like Varric. And when this was known as Dreadwolf it was also announced to be Live Service. They walked it back but they lost my interest and trust from that alone. It’s like a new IP they thought wouldn’t sell without a familiar name.
  • @maineman5757
I'll just wait for Dragon Age Dreadwolf to be revealed.
  • @Quikbeam
Its odd seeing all these industry people basically saying that they are hoping for the best and will give Bioware the benefit of the doubt while being surprised at backlash. If you really believe in the game then why would you need to "hope for the best"
  • @ladyjay74
Tbh when i saw this i was like 'This isnt Dreadwolf' .___.
  • @muxz
Previous Dragon Age games felt like a nice filet mignon wrapped in bacon This looks like a microwavable Salisbury steak
  • Wow, I didn't expect you guys to completely miss the point of the discourse. I guess, for starters, Inquisition's art style was more akin to an updated Origins. It was only more vibrant in the sense that you were trekking through more vibrant environments for most of the game whereas Origins was filled with the same muddy browns and grays that dominated that era of gaming. Dragon Age 2 was a different case entirely, but I chalk that up to the fact that they had to make the game in just over a year. The gameplay does look solid, yes, and if it were a different series, I'd be all for it. But it's not the tactical rpg combat that Dragon Age fans love the series for. I actually saw an article with the headline "BioWare has finally turned Dragon Age into what it was destined to be...Mass Effect" and based on what we've seen, and what they've said about the game, that rings 100% true. Now, don't get me wrong, Mass Effect and Dragon Age are two of my favorite series of all time, but I love hot sauce and I love ice cream. I don't love hot sauce in my ice cream.
