MENACE was invented in the early 1960s by Donald Michie, a British AI researcher.

@RT_Borg has what looks like a great project to generate distinct box positions, and has explained the symmetries in the forum discussion.
There is what looks like a great MENACE project by @TheGamer-
(I didn't actually use either of the above. Probably should have. The coding here is really horrible.)
