Smol backstory: Wraivens were meant to collect stars. They gathered them, cared for them, died for them. They were the sole caretakers of the universe's stars. They could harness it, trap it, and collect the stars power. But not one of them could create a star's energy, its raw force. Until Saiph. When he was found as a newborn orphan, something unusual had happened. Most newborn Wraiven kits needed to just be in the presence of a star to survive until brought to their mother, but as he was carried to the soft glow his fur began to radiate light, and he began to shine brighter than the star itself. His power had made him an outcast and he was sent to the Academy. The bullies and scornful students never stopped harassing him, the teachers all labeled him as "a mistake", and that he "was lucky to even be alive." Lovely.

Saiph crept through the deserted hall, paws sinking into the Academy's carpeted floor. His ears picked up faint whispers in the passageway and tails swishing in the library. The faint murmur of old pages rustled and creaky covers sighed, seeping through the towering wooden doors. He ran past the dormitory, his head down, careful not to jostle any other student who happened to be passing by. If he could spare himself a few whispers and scornful looks today, he would gladly take that opportunity. As he rounded the corner, he stopped a moment, breathing hard before sprinting past the foreboding iron doors. His fur began to glow as he raced past the gate, but soon faded as he reached the end of the corridor. Breathing a sigh of relief, he turned around to see who had seen his mad dash across the hallway. A young kit stared disdainfully at him before turning away. He glanced longingly at the white glow that oozed under the metal barrier before walking away. His route took him to a small hallway, its atmosphere eerily quiet. He glanced over his shoulder before slipping into a small door on the left, one tucked into the shadows. The cramped dorms hadn't been used for decades, but the Headmaster hadn't bothered to gut this wing of the school. Saiph ran through the bedroom to a small closet, silently easing it open. A small set of stairs led from the closet to the inside of the wall, where planks had been carefully placed in small spaces to create footholds. He crept into the gap, squeezing past a crawl space before emerging before a small wooden door. He pushed it open before stepping onto a small balcony. The small platform overlooked the entire Academy, including the star gardens and training hall. This was his favorite place to be at any time, especially during the collecting season. The balcony was completely secluded, and not even the guards from the watch towers could spot the tiny platform. He lowered himself onto a pile of rough blankets that lay next to a rusty telescope. The day he had found it was on a collecting day, when he had tried standing up to Sagittarii. The bully has tossed him into a garbage can, and he had landed on the broken old thing, realizing what it was before Sagittarii had closed the lid. After the whole fiasco, Saiph pocketed the telescope and fixed it with spare parts around the dump. He took the lid off the lens and peered through the chipped glass.
The sky was chock full of stars and he let his body relax, soaking in the luminous night. He closed his eyes, concentrating, calling out to the heavens above. He could hear a laugh, high in pitch, like wind chimes, but richer than any melody anyone had ever heard. A warmth ignited in his body, and he opened his eyes. A single star hung, suspended, in front of him. He called to it gently, harmonizing the playful tune the star sang. It drifted closer, and soon he was close enough to touch it. Reaching out slowly, he held out a paw and the instant he laid a pad on the smooth pearly surface, his coat flashed blindingly, sheathed in radiant light. Saiph yanked his paw off, fur still shedding a brilliant glow. The star skittered away, it's melody startled and full of fear. He jumped into the pile of blankets, cowering under the folds in case someone had spotted the flash. His coat retained a normal color soon after, and he cautiously poked his head out of the thick covers. A blinding flash appeared before him. A radiant glare met his eyes and he winced, straining to see the cat wreathed in light. His eyes adjusted slowly, and he squinted, barely making out details. A white, slightly translucent, cat stood before him, vivid markings on her face and paws. She wore a intricate crown on her head, and he could make out tiny stars strung around the rim. He stood up, shaking. "W-Who are y-you?" he stuttered, still partly blinded by her radiance. "You can call me Your Highness. Protector of these galaxies, Leader of the stars, and," she paused smiling at him. "Mother to Prince Saiph, the Defender of the Kingdom of Delfinus."
