★ Ahh fall is here!! >w< I made an animation a few days ago to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, but decided to mix the animation with a game to make it more fun. In doing so, I combined elements of eastern and western cultures in this project.
★ What is the Mid-Autumn Festival? It’s one of the three most important festivals for Chinese people. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Chinese lunar calendar. On this day, the moon is supposed to be at its fullest and brightest in the whole year. The full
moon is seen as a symbol of wholeness and perfection, and on this day, family members living in different places would return home for a reunion.
★ Traditionally, in celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chinese would place lanterns in front of their houses as festive decorations. Children would have a night outing with friends, holding lanterns for fun and to light up the way. Temples (some even with the patronage of government) would release lanterns to the night sky to pray for blessings for the people, an event that usually attracts huge crowds.
★ Why a bunny? Because the rabbit is the symbol animal for this Chinese traditional holiday, as it's the Moon Fairy's pet. For more legends related to this holiday, check out a project I made last year: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/177251312/
