[TEASER] Immersion Part 0: Light Left Behind

Published 2024-06-15
What's this—another Immersion project after nearly three years? And a prequel, of all things? What exotic variety of madness is this?

...nah, just kidding. This is just a silly hypothetical for the Immersiverse art contest. This ain't canon, and won't ever be canon. But an egg can still dream, can't he?

Long before the Trash opened up once again, and Scratchfall fell under continual threat by forces both on the inside and out, it was sealed shut for seven days.

For most Scratchers on the outside looking in, this was the site's Maintenance Mode: a tedious, but ultimately promising ushering in of a new era of programming, the world's metamorphosis from its second iteration to its third. A fresh purpose—and chance—for all involved.

For those on the inside, tasked with keeping watch over the land and the Scratch Team's experimental, ever-growing legion of bug-marking automata—this became a very, very different story.

This is that story.

Inspired by several talking points from the February 2019 issue of the NoOneInParticuler Show; some unexplained/unaddressed pieces of worldbuilding in Immersion Episode 2, Scratch's Elites, and Scratch Land 2; and a few features that were lost in real-life Scratch from 2.0 to 3.0.
