Live @ Focus: Corkscrew

When I was 14 or 15 years old, I went to a bar for the first time with my dad. I felt really cool - they even gave me my soda in a real glass pint glass! My dad was there to see Corkscrew perform, and I had tagged along because I was just getting into live music. During Corkscrew’s set break, I went to hang out behind the bar for a bit with them. I had mentioned that I had just seen Phish for the first time, so in their second set they made sure to play Phish’s Sample In A Jar for their young fan. I had the night of my life. Now, almost a decade later, it was awesome to get to see them perform again. Corkscrew plays rock tunes with tons of energy, and every song is so high intensity, whether it’s one of their many originals or a cover. The best thing about jam bands is how no two performances of the same song is identical, and every live show is totally different - even if the set list is identical. Having a jam band come in to be part of our Live @ Focus music series really brought an energy that we haven’t had in our studio before. Corkscrew is a band that anyone can enjoy, and everyone can find something in a live set that they love about this band. We had a great time with this recording, and look forward to filming another jam band someday. -BWH
