Sioux Falls River Greenway

It was a dream that began over 100 years ago. To turn areas that routinely flooded and were underutilized into parks, bike trails, ball fields and greenspace. The Big Sioux River meanders its way through the city inviting residents to behold in its beauty, take part in its recreational opportunities and enjoy the serenity of its cool waters. The river comes to a majestic pinnacle as it tumbles down the quartzite stone cutting through Falls Park.

This is the story of the Sioux Falls River Greenway. A Greenway system with close to twenty miles of bike trails that have grown to be a focal point of the city. The dream was first brought to the forefront in the early 1900’s but it took two city employees in the 1970’s to bring it to realization.
