The "Leftovers" ran for three seasons. It begins a few years after 2% of the human population disappeared at the same time. But it started far into our past - before language developed and after mastery of fire. A heavily pregnant woman (a member of a modest sized group sleeping around a fire just inside a cave) gets up to pee. She had just finished when a small quake threw her down and a rockslide entombed everyone in the 'tribe?'.

She gives birth. As she gathered food she leapt to protect the baby from a snake which bit her. Many venoms cause rapid death of the skin ... infection ... death. Another woman heard the baby and cared for her.

I totally enjoyed exploration of grief and loss when there is no body or hint of what happened. Death is a perfectly natural event within families. It ceased to be normal as increasing proportions of deaths occurred in impersonal settings - death factories / hospitals.

It weaves theology, sociology, myth and physics perfectly.
