About The Answers Are Within

In 1980 at the age of 13 my parents took me to see The Shining. My world was forever changed. It was like watching my own family on a huge screen in front of us. In addition to my father being the spitting image of Jack Nicholson (looks) and Torrance (behavior) my mother pretended (overlooked) as if nothing was wrong, yet he was a raging and abusive alcoholic. She was an alcoholic, too. He was, however, deeply into cameras, photography and film, hence why we went to see lots of great movies in the 70's and 80's. I learned how to shoot 35mm with his help and my friend and I made movies on Super8 film and edited it ourselves.

In the decades between then and now I have edited a lot of video and have had an ongoing obsession with The Shining and Kubrick's other work. In recent years I pulled a lot of his stuff into my video editor and have been having a great time learning about Stanley's "secret sauce" as it were, his incredible skill at editing film.
