This song spoke to my adolescent soul. I used to get so butthurt and JEALOUS like I needed to know everything that his ex was into where she went, who she hung out with, what kind of music she listened to, what shampoo she used, etc… It consumed me. I even found myself trying to do my makeup like hers. It’s refreshing and validating to know that many of us went through this angsty, insecure phase and compared ourselves to other women. I think it was harder in the 2000s since it was more toxic, and pitting women against women and slut shaming was the cultural norm then.
