🐾 Hi there! If you're reading this, then chances are you are somewhat familiar with music, music theory, music production, or are just curious about how I completed this song in a few hours. Well, for one, personally, I don't remember just how long it took me to complete this song, but it was probably the quickest I've ever completed a song. Of course, though, knowing me, I decided to revisit it a few times, change a few things, and added a few things here and there. Well, without further ado, let me tell you that the answer is probably going to be supremely unsatisfying because, chances are, you already know it! The "Minor Chord Progression"! Or the minor progression. Or the i-VI-III-VII progression. The "Pop Chord Progression" There's a good comedy bit that discusses this topic rather comically yet effectively by @axisofawesome and can be found here:    • Axis of Awesome - 4 Four Chord Song (...   but, essentially, that's all I did. That's it. I worked on the chord progression and built up the song from there. Literally. That's why this song is the way that it is because, well, you can hear my train of thought. It started with the chords and everything else grew from there. After I had the main framework of the song, I just kind of added a few things here and there, gave it a strange intro because I don't know what I'm doing, and called it a song. Truly, the simplest formula to making a song. Now if you want to make a GOOD song, that actually requires a little bit of trying. But if you're watching my channel, you're not here for good music, clearly.

🐾 The lyrics were an afterthought. Remember how I said I just jumped in and finished this song super quickly? I didn't even have a title for it. I just had it saved as, like, "The Formula" or something stupid like that. I don't remember which one came first -- the lyrics or the title -- but adding the lyrics was simpler than I thought. For me, anyways. There is not much to the words... I think the title probably came first, actually. In following the familiar formula of pop music writing, the lyrics are based on my love life. When I was younger, I had someone I loved dearly and everyone could have said that we were together because of how close we were, but sadly, no. We were just... very good friends. It still saddens me sometimes. We tried dating for a bit... but it was complicated. The lyrics dictate that loosely, but most importantly, you'll notice that I never actually say the word "together", because, in the end, we never were...

Lyrics:
(In another world...) We could have been—
(In another time...) We should have been—
(In another place...) We would have been—
(In the past...) We were—
